8th Grade Lady Cougars vs. San Benito Miller Jordan

The 8th Grade “A” and “B” Lady Cougar Basketball hosted the lady cougars of Miller Jordan to open the season.  The “A” team step onto the court in what would be an aggressive showing for the lady cougars. The Lady Cougars started the game a little slow and went down 2-4 in the first quarter. The battle continued in the second quarter in which the lady cougar continued to struggle and finished the half 10-12. The lady cougar finally found their rhythm and controlled the second half with great passes and fundamentals to outscore Miller Jordan 11-7. Lady cougars showed great heart and most important sportsmanship to end the game to beat the lady Cougars of Miller Jordan. Daisy Paredes lead the Lady Cougars with 8 points while, Corina Medina and Cassie Parra added 3 and 4 points apiece.  Kaitlyn Szpak and Mareoni  Rareba played great defense to help finished the game with the first win of the season.

 Final Score our mighty Lady Cougars 21 and Miller Jordan 19

The “B” team soon followed on the second game as the offense managed to control the ball throughout the game. The lady cougar B team started little slow only scoring 1 point in the first quarter. The second half of the game was a battle but the lady cougars found their rhythm to outscore Miller Jordan 16-2. Jennifer Flores led the lady cougars with 6 points and Lucy Bonales with 5 points. Vanessa Duran, Samantha Atherton and Victoria Garza each had 2 points to finish the lady cougars of Miller Jordan. Melanie Macias, Carol Rodriguez, and Marlynn Rodriguez finished the game by playing great defense.   Final Score our mighty lady cougar B team 18 and Miller Jordan 8

 
8th Grade Lady Cougars vs. Harlingen Coakley

The 8th Grade “A” and “B” Lady Cougar Basketball Team traveled to Harlingen to play Coakley in the battle of the Cougars.  The “A” team step onto the court in what would be an aggressive showing for the Cougars. Our Cougars started the game a little slow missing on great opportunities in the first Quarter. The battle continued in the second quarter in which the lady cougars stormed back and got within 3 points at half 10-13. Our Cougars finally found their rhythm on defense and took controlled in the fourth quarter with great footwork and fundamentals to outscore Coakley 10-8 in the second half.  Our Cougars showed great heart and most important sportsmanship to end the game but the lady cougar of Harlingen held on to win 21 20. Ally Highful and Katelyn Farias led the Cougars with 4 points apiece followed by Cassie Parra and Corina Medina 3 points each.  Claudia Sauceda and Victoria Vital played great defense to help finished the game.  Final Score Coakley 21 and our lady Cougars 20

The “B” team soon followed on the second game as the offense managed to control the ball in the 1st quarter. The cougar B team when up 8-2 in the first quarter and never looked back. Jeniffer Flores and Liz Garza led the Cougars with 6 points apiece followed by Kaylie Castro 4 points and Kassandra Lara finished the game with 2 points. The lady cougars of Harlingen made it close at the end but great defense by Samantha Atherton and Melanie Macias and Erika Nieto help close the door on Coakley.  Final Score our mighty Cougar B team 18 and Coakley Cougars 16

 
Lady Cougar Basketball vs. Harlingen Memorial

The 7th grade Lady Cougars went down in defeat to the Raiders of Memorial Raiders 26 to 1.  The Lady Cougars fell behind early and could never recover.  Playing a good game was Alexis Becerra and Litzy Carbajal.  Natalie Leal had the only point for the Lady Cougars.

             The B Team played the Lady Cougars tough to the end as they lost in the last 20 seconds 19 to 18.  Scoring for the Lady Cougars were Cynthia Gonzalez, Bryanna Barrera, Laura Lumberas, Nadine Fernandez, Cassandra Arizmendi, Claudia, and Angie G.

              

The 8th Grade “A” and “B” Lady Cougar Basketball Team traveled to Harlingen to play Memorial. 

The “A” team step onto the court in what would be an aggressive showing for the Cougars. Our lady Cougars started the game a little slow missing on great opportunities in the first Quarter. The battle continued in the second quarter in which the lady cougars stormed back to take a halftime lead of 4-2. Our Cougars continued to struggle but managed to outscore Memorial in the third quarter to take an 8-6 lead into the fourth quarter. Our Cougars showed great heart and most important sportsmanship to end the game but Memorial of Harlingen finished the game with an 8 to 2 run to end the game.  Ally Highful and Victoria Vital led the Cougars with 4 points apiece followed by Katelyn Farias 2 points.

The “B” team soon followed, in the second game as the offense managed to control the ball in the 1st quarter. The cougar B team when up 4-2 in the first quarter and never looked back. The lady cougar finally found their rhythm and controlled the second half with great passes and fundamentals to outscore Memorial 8-0. Melanie Macias and Alejandra Alvear led the Cougars defense to shutdown Memorial to 0 points in the second half.  Nicole Herrera and Carmen Flores lead the way with 4 points apiece followed by Kassandra Lara, Ellie Torres, Jennifer Flores, and Victoria Garza 2 points apiece. Final Score our mighty cougar B team 16 and Memorial 4.

Lady Cougar Basketball vs. Resaca

   The 7th grade A Team traveled to the Gator Pit on Monday and found it rough again as the Lady Cougars fell behind early 6 to 5.  The second half saw the Lady Gators pull away as the Lady Cougars lsot 20 to 9.  Scoring for the Lady Cougars were Sophia Navarrette, Natlie Leal, Leeawny Rodriguez, and Victoria Garcia.

 

   The 7th grade B Team again to proved to be the most exciting game of the night as they took a 6 to 4 lead into the end of the first half.  The second half found the Lady Cougars struggling to score as the Lady Gators went up 10 to 8 in the last minute.  Just as it looked like the Lady Cougars would lose their second close game in two weeks, Brittany Bierber scored a basket and tied the game 10-10 with less than 3 seconds on the clock.  Other scorers were Ashley Galvan, Paulo Lugo, and Ashley Hurtado.

 


    The 8th Grade “A” and “B” Lady Cougar Basketball hosted the lady gators of Resaca in the battle of the parking lots!  The Lady Cougars started the game quickly with Corina Medina hitting a three pointer to open the game but it was the defense which contained the lady gators to only 6 points in the first quarter. The battle continued in the second quarter in which the lady gators took control of the game to finish the half 23-5. Lady cougars showed great heart and most important sportsmanship to end the game but the lady gators never looked back. Corina Medina lead the Lady Cougars with 5 points while, Alley Highful added 2. Final Score our mighty Lady Cougars 14 and Miller Jordan 38

The “B” team soon followed on the second game as the offense managed to control the ball throughout the game but missed on to many opportunities. The lady cougar B team started a little slow getting outscored 11-4 in the first half. In the second half the lady cougars found their rhythm to outscore the lady gator 9-3 but the first half deficient was too much to overcome, giving the lady cougars their first lost of the season. Samantha Atherton led the lady cougar with 4 points and Carmen Flores added 3 points. Marylin Rodriguez and Kaylie Castro finished the game by playing great defense. Final Score our mighty lady cougar B team 13 and Lady Gators 14
Next up for the Lady Cougars will be San Benito's Berta Cabaza.  7th grade will be at home while the 8th graders will be traveling to San Benito. Tip off will be at 5:30pm. 
 
Lady Cougar Basketball vs. San Benito Berta Cabaza

The 7th grade A Team played San Benito’s Berta Cabaza at the Cougar Den last night and once again fell behind early and could not catch up.  The Lady Cougars came out slow and they never could recover.  The second half the Lady Cougars pick up the intensity but they still lost.

 The B Team once again kept the fans on the edge of their seats as they jumped out to a six point lead with Berta Cabaza catching up and it was nick and tuck the rest of the way.  The Lady Cougars pulled out a one point win at the end to run their record to 2 wins 2 losses and 1 tie.
 
The 8th Grade “A” and “B” Lady Cougar Basketball Team traveled to San Benito to play Berta Cabaza.  Our Lady Cougars started the game with great passing to take a 5-11 lead at the end of the first quarter. The battle continued in the second quarter in which, the lady cougars outscored the lady pups 8 to 4 to take a halftime lead of 13-7. Our lady Cougars controlled the whole second half and never looked back with great footwork and fundamentals to finish off the lady pups. Our Cougars showed great heart and most important sportsmanship in a total team victory. Marenoi Rareba led the Cougars with 5 points followed by Cassie Parra, Corina Medina, Daisy Paredes, and Ally High  4 points each.  Claudia Sauceda and Victoria Vital played great defense to help finished the game.  Final Score Berta Cabaza 15 and our lady Cougars 24

The “B” team soon followed in the second game as the lady cougars started out a little slow in the first half with a score of 4 to 4. The second half was a little different when the lady cougars finally found their stride and took control of the game. Liz Garza was on fire and scored 11 points in the second half to lead the way for another victory for the lady cougars. Melanie Macias and Samantha Atherton played outstanding defense to hold the lady pups to just 1 point in the second half. Vanessa Duran and Kaylie Castro added 2 points apiece to end the game.  Final Score our mighty cougar B team 17 and Lady Pups 5
