Dear Parent,

I am looking forward to having your child in my classroom and would like to welcome you to Middle School Social Studies.  This course will take your child around the globe as they visit peoples of the world and learn the five themes of Social Studies which include History, Geography, Economics, Government, and Culture.
The aim of this course is to enable students to become independent thinkers with respect to the history of their world. They will be encouraged to create their own opinions based on the information they are presented. Additionally, students will be expected to connect this information to current events around their neighborhood, their city and state, their country, and their world.
Throughout the year it is also our intention to explore the content of this class using different means of sharing information. Primary Sources and historical websites and places of interest will give students a first-hand account of their studies. Technology will also be widely used in this course and encouraged at home. Pre-AP Students may also be expected to participate in research projects of an assigned topic of American History.
