Boys Soccer Re-Cap

Boys Soccer Re-cap

The Los Cuates Boys Soccer team traveled to Harlingen to take on Coakley Middle School and defeated Coakley 3-1.  Two goals were scored by Jesus Gonzalez while Victor Hernandez added one.  Alberto Garcia and Fernando Barrientos each had an assist and helped control the game in the Cougars favor.  Samuel Garcia helped control the middle field.  The defense led by Frankie Aguilera,  Adams Uwimana, Javier Epinoza and Rodrigo De La Fuente, helped stop a determined group of Coakley attackers.  Goalies, Jesus Rodriguez and Eric Pizarro each had one save.  Other outstanding players include Adrian Torres, Ramon Garcia, Noel Torres, Mario Mueller, Armando Quesada, Eric Munoz, Jose Ortiz, Mark Fernandez, Adrian Espinoza, Alejandro Maya, Ezekiel Cisneros, Sammy De La Fuente, Israel Cano, and Michael Hinojosa.  Everyone contributed greatly to the Cougar win.  Very good team work

and chemistry.  The Cougars next game will be on Monday at 630pm vs. rival Resaca Gators at Liberty soccer field in the classic "Battle of the Parking Lot".  Come out and support your team and watch a great soccer game.  Go Cougars!

The Los Cuates Cougars suffered a minor setback at the hands of Resaca Middle School and lost a really close game, 2-1.  After giving up two goals in the first half, the Cougars finally woke up and came out in the second half playing very good defense.  Led by Javier Espinoza, Adams Uwimana and newcomer Ramon Garcia, the Cougars did an excellent job of not allowing the Gators another point.   Filling in at goalie and doing an excellent job was Eric Pizarro, who did not allow a goal.  Victor Hernandez kicked in the only goal for the Cougars with about 15 minutes left in the game.  The Cougars came very close to tying the game several times, but Resaca’s goalie did an excellent job of preventing it.  The next game will be on Monday the 19th vs. San Benito’s Berta Cabaza.  We will be practicing real hard this week to get back on track and add another “W”. Go Cougars!
The Los Cuates Cougars got back on track Monday night when they hosted San Benito's Berta Cabaza.  The Cougars dominated the entire game scoring 3 goals.  Eric Pizarro continued to do an excellent job at Goalie allowing 2 goals late in the second half.  The Cougar defense led by Javier Espinoza and Ramon Garcia were able to hold off the Greypups.  The Cougars came out on top 3-2.  Next up for the Cougars is the first game of the Tournament.  The Cougars will face a determined Harlingen Vernon Middle School at Liberty Memorial at 5:30pm.  The winner of this game will advance to the Championship bracket while the loser will advance to the Consolation bracket.
The Los Cuates Cougar Soccer Team lost their first game of the tournament on Monday (11-26-12) vs. Vernon 1-0 but got right back on track in the double elimination tournament by beating Coakley 1-0 last night.  Jesus Gonzalez scored the only goal of the game to send the Cougars into the quarterfinals of the Consolation Bracket vs. Berta Cabaza on Saturday at 9am at Greyhound Stadium.  If the Cougars win that game, they will play in the Consolation Championship Game at 11am at the same stadium.  Our goalie, Eric Pizarro and the defense led by Javier Espinoza, also included Frankie Aguilera, Ramon Garcia, Rodrigo De La Fuente, Mark Sanchez, Alexis Lucio, Jose Ortiz, and Noel Torres, denied any chance of the Coakley attackers from even coming close to scoring a goal.  Our offense which included Victor Hernandez, Adams Uwimana, Fernando Barrientos, Armando Quezada, Jesus Delgado, Eric Munoz, Samuel Garcia, Adrian Torres, Mario Mueller, Israel Cano, and Alejandro Maya had 8 shots on goal and just couldn't get the game out of reach for Coakley.  So the game was very exciting and tense. Good thing we only needed one goal.  Good Job Cougars and Good Luck in tomorrows games.  Go Cougars!
12-1-12 Tournament Play

The Los Cuates Boys Soccer Team played a quarterfinal match on Saturday vs. Berta Cabaza and won 2-0.  Goals were made by Jesus Gonzalez and Adams Uwimana in that game.   Then in the Consolation Championship Game vs. Miller Jordan, the Cougars won 1-0 with another goal by Jesus Gonzalez.  Our goalie, Eric Pizarro, had 6 saves in the Consolation game to help clinch the game.   Pizarro along with Jesus Gonzalez were the MVP's of the tournament.   The defense, led by Javier Espinoza, Frankie Aguilera, Rodrigo De La Fuente, Mark Fernandez and Ramon Garcia shut out both opponents to help the team win both games.  Other players who helped contribute to the wins were Armando Quezada, Jesus Delgado, Alexis Lucio, Eric Munoz, Samuel Garcia, Alberto Garcia, Victor Hernandez, Adrian Torres, Noel Torres, Mario Mueller, Israel Cano, Alejandro Maya, Jose Ortiz, and Jesus Rodriguez. They worked and played hard to bring home the Consolation Trophy.  Congrats to the Cougars!   They play their next game tonight vs. San Benito Riverside at Liberty Memorial Field at 5:30pm.  Come out and support your team.  Go Cougars!

2012 Boys Soccer Consolation Champions

The Los Cuates Cougars Boys Soccer Team Is On Fire!   The team is playing their best soccer of the year after a slow start.  The Cougars defeated a very good Riverside team that no other Los Fresnos School could defeat this year, in a very tough and exciting game last night.  The Cougars came out tough and scored first in the first half with a goal by Jesus Gonzalez, who leads the team with 6 goals on the year.  But Riverside pressed hard and eventually scored on a controversial play with about 4 minutes left in the game to send the game into penalty kicks.  Eric Pizarro would block the first kick by Riverside, but the next three would score.  On a stroke of luck, the last Riverside kicker shot the ball wide right and missed.  Adams Uwimana, Jesus Delgado, and Victor Hernandez would score on penalty kicks to tie the shootout 3-3 with one kicker left for Los Cuates.  That kicker would be our very own Goalie Eric Pizarro.  With the game in his hands, Eric shot the ball at the bottom left corner of the goal past the Riverside goalie for the 4-3 victory.   Eric Pizarro was named MVP again as he was in the Tournament.  The Midfield played by Adams Uwimana, Jesus Delgado, Samuel Garcia, and Alejandro Maya, who filled in for a missing player, controlled the game very well and fought hard.  And last but not least, our very strong defense led by Javier Espinoza, Ramon Garcia, Rodrigo De La Fuente, and Frankie Aguilera did what they always do.  They stopped a very big and fast Riverside attack throughout the whole game.  Other players who helped in the victory were Adrian Torres and Armando Quesada.  Thanks to all who came out to support our team.  We couldn't do it without your support.  The Cougars will play their final game of the season on Monday December 10th vs. Liberty at 5:30pm at Liberty Memorial.  Please come out to support us on our final game.  Go Cougars!
